Terms of Service

Last updated: October 28, 2026

These Terms of Service govern your purchase, download, and use of DictDrop ("Software") and the website at dictdrop.com ("Site"), including the optional DictDrop Pro subscription. By purchasing, downloading, installing, subscribing to, or using the Software, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not purchase, install, subscribe to, or use the Software.

1. About the Software

DictDrop is a Windows desktop tool that transcribes speech and pastes text into any application. It is available in two editions: the Standard edition, a one-time purchase for one laptop, and DictDrop Pro, an optional recurring subscription described in Section 2. Both editions use your own Groq API key.

In both editions, the Software operates locally on your machine. Audio captured by your microphone is sent directly from your computer to Groq's servers using your own Groq API key. DictDrop does not receive, store, process, or transmit your audio data at any point.

2. DictDrop Pro (Optional Subscription Plan)

DictDrop Pro is a separate, optional monthly or annual subscription. It does not replace the one-time Standard edition described in Section 1 — Standard and Pro are distinct products, and purchasing one does not entitle you to the other.

DictDrop Pro uses your own Groq API key exactly like the Standard edition: audio goes directly from your computer to Groq, and DictDrop does not receive, store, process, or transmit your audio data. Each Pro subscription seat licenses the Software on one laptop; to use Pro on another laptop, add a seat. New features are released to DictDrop Pro first.

DictDrop Pro may start with a free trial, as offered at checkout. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, the subscription then bills on a recurring basis (monthly at $6.99, or annually at $59, per seat, as selected at signup) through Polar.sh, acting as Merchant of Record. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You may cancel at any time through your Polar customer portal (linked in your receipt email); cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and no partial refunds are issued for unused time within a period unless required by applicable law.

DictDrop may suspend or terminate a Pro subscription for abuse or use that violates these Terms.

3. License

Upon purchasing the Software, DictDrop grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Software on one laptop or computer per Standard purchase, or on one laptop or computer per DictDrop Pro seat, for personal or internal business purposes. To move the license to a new laptop, free the old one on your Polar order page and enter your license key again.

You may not:

  • Redistribute, sell, rent, or sublicense the Software to any third party
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software
  • Create derivative works based on the Software
  • Remove any proprietary notices or labels from the Software

4. Purchase and Refund

The Software (Standard edition) is sold at a one-time price of $177 USD per laptop. There are no subscription fees, renewal fees, or recurring charges for the Standard edition. Payment and delivery are handled by Polar.sh, which acts as Merchant of Record and is responsible for collecting and remitting applicable taxes.

You are entitled to a full refund within 30 days of purchase if you are not satisfied for any reason. To request a refund, email support@dictdrop.com. Refunds are processed within 1 business day of the request. DictDrop Pro subscription refunds are governed by Section 2.

If you instead buy the Standard edition license through the Microsoft Store (the in-app "DictDrop License" add-on), that purchase is billed, fulfilled, and refunded entirely by Microsoft as the Store's merchant of record — the 30-day dictdrop.com refund process above does not apply to it. To request a refund for a Microsoft Store purchase, use Microsoft's own refund process at support.microsoft.com or through your Microsoft account order history, subject to Microsoft's refund policy and timelines.

5. Third-Party Services

Both editions require a Groq API key that you obtain independently from Groq, Inc. (groq.com). Your use of Groq's services is governed solely by Groq's own terms of service and privacy policy. DictDrop has no control over Groq's availability, pricing, data practices, or any changes Groq makes to its services.

You are solely responsible for compliance with Groq's terms and for all API usage costs beyond Groq's free tier. DictDrop receives no portion of any fees you pay to Groq.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, DictDrop EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ACCURACY OF RESULTS. DictDrop DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS, OPERATE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION, OR BE FREE OF ERRORS OR DEFECTS.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL DictDrop BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, PUNITIVE, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, LOSS OF DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR SYSTEM FAILURE, HOWEVER CAUSED AND UNDER ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGE.

DICTDROP'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE STANDARD EDITION SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU ACTUALLY PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE. FOR DICTDROP PRO, DICTDROP'S TOTAL CUMULATIVE LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID IN SUBSCRIPTION FEES OVER THE 3 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

8. Security

Both the Standard edition and DictDrop Pro are designed so that your audio never passes through DictDrop's infrastructure. No software can guarantee complete security on your device. Your computer's security is your own responsibility. DictDrop is not liable for unauthorized access to your system, data breaches, malware infections, or other security incidents on your computer, whether related to the Software or not.

Windows SmartScreen may display a warning when running the installer because the Software is independently published. This is expected behavior for all indie Windows software and does not indicate that the Software is malicious.

9. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless DictDrop from and against any claims, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use or misuse of the Software, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any third-party rights including Groq's terms of service.

10. Changes to Terms

DictDrop may update these Terms at any time. Updated terms will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date. Continued use of the Software after a material change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes will be announced via the support email for existing customers where reasonably practicable.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by applicable law. Any disputes shall be resolved in the competent courts of the jurisdiction where Cimmic LLC, the company that operates DictDrop, resides. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.

12. Contact

DictDrop is operated by Cimmic LLC, 5900 Balcones Dr, Ste 100, Austin, TX 78731.
